Understanding TDS, SDS and COA: The Documents Behind Every Chemical Shipment

Chemical purchases come with a set of documents. Knowing what each one covers helps buyers evaluate products and keep operations compliant.

Technical Data Sheet (TDS)

The TDS describes the product’s typical properties and specifications — assay, appearance, physical characteristics and recommended uses. It is the starting point for checking suitability.

Safety Data Sheet (SDS / MSDS)

The SDS covers hazards, safe handling, storage, first aid, transport classification and disposal. It is essential for workplace safety and for transport.

Certificate of Analysis (COA)

The COA reports test results for a specific batch against its specification. It confirms that the material shipped matches what was agreed.

Ask for the TDS and SDS while evaluating a product, and the COA with each shipment. We share available documentation on request for the products we supply.
